In short, don’t go with the Facebook recommended settings.  To protect yourself you should select Old Settings for everything.  Then spend a few min going over your privacy settings to keep advertisers and stalkers from knowing everything about you posted to your friends on Facebook.

Remember!  If you don’t protect yourself you have no one to blame when your identity gets stolen or the kid who used to stare at you in math class winds up peering through your bedroom window.
